Here & Now: FSC Student Perspectives on the Permanent Collection brings together works from the AGB’s permanent collection acquired since 2000, reinterpreted through newly written labels by Florida Southern College students in Contemporary Art History (Spring 2026). Rather than summarizing an artist’s biography or describing a work’s formal qualities, each label advances a critical argument for why a particular work matters today.
Featured artists in the exhibition include celebrated artists such as Alex Katz, Hunt Slonem, Ed Ruscha, Damien Hirst, William Wegman, and Miriam Schapiro, among others. Collectively, the project asks how contemporary art speaks to the conditions of the present, and how students and viewers might understand these works as urgent and meaningful in our own moment. Each label treats interpretation as a curatorial act: an invitation to see familiar works differently, reconsider their stakes, and reflect on how artworks continue to shape—and be shaped by—the world we inhabit.
