Knot III (horse armor), Stephen Althouse, 2011
Pennsylvania-based artist Stephen Althouse’s large-scale black-and-white photographs captivate viewers in the most unexpected ways; inherently two-dimensional but centered on assemblages of everyday human-built objects, his photographs are paradoxically more sculptural than photographic — and more spiritually moving than purely documentary. Through Althouse’s unique eyes and camera lens, constructs of humankind become symbols of who we are, who we have been, and who we one day may be.
