Oven Green Beans

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds green beans

  • ½ pound bacon

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 1 can mushrooms

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Fry bacon.

  2. Sauté mushrooms and onions in drippings.

  3. Snap and wash beans.

  4. Put beans, onions, mushrooms, sugar, salt, and pepper in Dutch oven.

  5. Cover and cook at 350 for 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally. Serves 8.

Sam's Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 rounded teaspoons baking powder 

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 3 rounded tablespoons shortening 

  • 1 package yeast 

  • ⅓ cup lukewarm water

  • 1 cup buttermilk 

Instructions:

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  2. Work shortening into dry ingredients.

  3. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.

  4. Add yeast and buttermilk to flour mixture. Knead for 5 minutes.

  5. Refrigerate 3 or 4 days.

  6. Bake at 450 about 10 minutes. Serves 12.
