We’re staying up late.
Join us April 17th at 6pm for a musical performance inspired by our current exhibition American Art Since the 1960s! Led by Tampa based pianist and improviser Julián Pernett Castilla, this recital explores the bold experimentation and rebellious energy of 20th-century music in the United States where jazz, rock, and avant-garde music collided to redefine modern culture.
Julián Pernett Castilla,
Rooted in classical and Afro-Latin jazz fusion traditions, Julián Percent Castilla’s music reflects his Colombian Caribbean heritage and his passion for improvisation. His recent projects explore a wide range of creative approaches, from Brazilian Tropicália, paseo vallenato, and New Orleans jazz, to experimental ideas inspired by Dada and Surrealism. A professor of music at St. Leo University, Julián received his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Universidad Juan N. Corpas (Bogota, Columbia), a Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida.
