AGB Thursdays: Julián Pernett Castilla and James Wall

We’re staying up late.

Join us May 22nd at 6pm for a musical jazz performance inspired by the photographs of renowned photographer Herman Leonard! Led by Tampa based pianist and improviser Julián Pernett Castilla alongside trombonist and vocalist James Wall, this recital will take place in the Robert and Malena Puterbaugh Gallery of the new wing.

Julián Pernett Castilla’s music reflects his Colombian Caribbean heritage and his passion for improvisation that is rooted in classical and Afro-Latin jazz fusion traditions. A professor of music at St. Leo University, Julián received his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Universidad Juan N. Corpas (Bogota, Columbia), a Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida.

James Wall is an American trombonist and music educator currently based in the Tampa Bay area. His influence and inspiration for playing music derives from the musicians who call the city of New Orleans home such as notable members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band including Stephen Walker, Ronell Johnson, and Glen Finister Andrews. Wall has performed at the French Quarter Festival with these musicians as a part of the traditional jazz group known as Onward Brass Band. Mr. Wall holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance and a Master's Degree in Trombone Performance from the University of South Florida (USF).
