Dates: Jul 12 | Jul 19 | Jul 26 | Aug 2 | Aug 9 | Aug 16
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Instructor: Mary Correa, Professional Artist
Fee: $165 Members, $215 Non-Members
Join Mary to explore abstract watercolors, inks, and other water-based media. Learn design, composition, and color theory through practice.
Students will learn how to create abstract works using various techniques and tools. Abstract painting offers a free and expressive approach, unrestricted by traditional forms. In this course, you will dive into the philosophy of Abstract Expressionism, studying its roots in art history and how it has evolved, allowing you to develop your own visual language. The idea of a conversation between the artwork and the artist will be key to the process.
The workshop will cover:
the basics of watercolor, so no experience with watercolors is necessary
basic color theory
creating an abstract composition
telling a story through your painting
techniques for working with watercolor and inks
how to use masking
exercises to “loosen up”
finishing your painting with detailing.
