Dates: Oct 1 | Oct 8 | Oct 15 | Oct 22 | Oct 29 | Nov 5
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Instructor: Julie TerHaar, B.F.A., Illustration and Painting, Savannah College of Art and Design

Fee: $165 Members, $215 Non-Members

Over the course of six weeks, students will utilize the unique properties and immediacy of this painting material. Explore the color, texture and blending effects provided by soft chalk pastels as well as proper composition and light placement. Pastel painting masters including Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, Renoir and even Picasso will be referenced to show variations in style, as well as historical perspectives.

The first couple of classes will be focused on a simple still-life to get comfortable with the medium being demonstrated by the instructor, as students follow along.  Once students become familiar with the media, the remaining classes will be spent completing a final pastel painting.
