VIRTUAL ARTLAB

Each month, participants will be introduced to one of the Museum’s exhibitions in a fun and interactive way through Zoom. ArtLabs are led by professional artists and art educators who will engage participants of all ages and skills in the creation of their own piece of artwork. Each virtual ArtLab will include a private Zoom invitation as well as a supply list to gather prior to the lab.
VIRTUAL LABS: These labs will take place in a virtual classroom accessed from the comfort of your own home through Zoom. Students will enjoy an online learning environment with the instructor and their fellow classmates for live engagement, interaction, and access to additional resources. Links to download the Zoom program and to attend class meetings will be provided to each student for easy access.

Join photojournalist and visual arts teacher Rick Runion as he takes a closer look into our “Observations: Street Photography from the Permanent Collection” exhibition.
Explore the exhibition and dive into a photographic genre focused on the unmediated encounter. Rick will lead an interactive discussion about artists within the exhibition, share examples of his own street photography, and highlight the skills and attention it takes to be a street photographer.
Participants will be encouraged to exercise safe street photography techniques by capturing their own surroundings through a device most of us carry on a day to day basis: our smartphones.

Rick Runion is an award-winning photojournalist and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University.
After a full-time career as a photojournalist, Runion started a new career as a Visual Arts Teacher at Rochelle School of the Arts in Lakeland, Florida, where he teaches Visual Art and Photography.
Runion has over 20 years experience as a photojournalist and has been an art and photography instructor at the Polk Museum of Art for 15 years.
