Join us May 8th at 6pm for a musical performance in the new atrium! Led by Tampa based pianist and improviser Julián Pernett Castilla alongside jazz saxophonist Aaron West, this recital will be inspired by works located in our first floor galleries of the Anne B. Kerr Wing.
Julián Pernett Castilla,
Rooted in classical and Afro-Latin jazz fusion traditions, Julián Percent Castilla’s music reflects his Colombian Caribbean heritage and his passion for improvisation. A professor of music at St. Leo University, Julián received his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Universidad Juan N. Corpas (Bogota, Columbia), a Master’s of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida.
Aaron West
Aaron West is a saxophonist and professor of music at the University of South Florida. West has studied and specializes in jazz saxophone performance and the recording arts. He earned a BS in Music Industry Studies with a concentration in Recording and Production from Appalachian State University and an MM in Jazz Performance from the University of South Florida. In addition, West has solidified a place in the Tampa Bay music scene by performing with artists such as The Simon Lasky Group, The Ross Strauser Jazz Orchestra, Sandujazz, and The Gulf Coast Symphony.
